Hit the books – to get started studying hard
Flunk (fail) out of school – to fail all courses and be expelled from a school
To breeze through a course – to pass a course with no problems at all
Pass by the skin of your teeth – to get the lowest possible passing grade
Bomb a test – to do poorly on a test
Cut class – not to go to a class one
Ace a test – to do extremely good on a test
Pull in all nighter – to stay up all night
A dropout – a person who leaves school before graduating
A killer exam – extremely difficult exam
A make up test – a test given if a student is absent on the day
Straight as – all student’s grades for a semester are ‘A’
Draw a blank – something can’t remember answer to a question
A pop quiz – this is a surprise quiz
Honor roll – the list of Ss in a school who get good grades in a given semester
The head of the class – Student is ranked №1 in the class
Hand something in under the wire – to hand something in at the last possible minute
The teacher’s pet – the teacher’s favourite student
Learn by heart – memorize something
The class clown – student is usually in trouble for not being very serious in class
A cheat sheet – a small piece of paper with the answer on it, used for cheating
Saved by the bell – teacher doesn’t have time to assign
